On our lunch break, one of my friends mentioned the evolution of my style- and I had a good laugh about that. Think about it, how did you dress 3 years ago? What did you wear 10 years ago? It's quite funny to recall your outfit choices.
I immediately had a terrifying flashback to first year uni when I wore nothing but suede wedge ankle booties with EVERYTHING. Yea it may have been cute (at the time), but I scratch my head about that one now. All I can say is God Bless the sneaker.
My personal style has always been all over the place- I never felt like I dressed consistently because I was always playing with fashion. Silhouettes, colour, textures- I was always experimenting with something... even trying to repurpose garments to wear them in different ways.
However, after years of playing, growing, and maturing- and with a little guidance and inspiration from those beautiful Scandinavians- I have found my style

This style that I have developed is hugely inspired by my experience living abroad. In general, living in a foreign country made me become more confident in myself, more independent, and even stronger than I ever was before. I had completely grown from the experience and developed a stronger sense of self. This all translates in to my wardrobe now.
I still love playing with silhouettes, (neutral) colours, and textures. I love pairing unexpected pieces together and creating unique looks... ones that aren't necessarily the "Vancouver" style. I have added a European flare to almost all of my outfits since moving back home.
For my favourite time of year- the transition from Summer to Fall, I just can't help but wear a turtle neck most days. Especially because it is slightly chilly in the morning and I am still in Helsinki mode. I try to opt for light layers, but usually find myself in a sweater and leather jacket... anything but light. However, for a later class start this morning, I skipped most of the early morning chill, and was able to throw on a light (and I mean VERY light) black sweater. I paired the simple, loose fitting top with high waisted, straight-leg trousers by tucking part of the sweater in in the front- to show the contrasting drawstring. For comfort and practicality, I paired the neutral ensemble to my 'go-to' snakeskin sneakers. For further practicality, I threw on a backpack, because sometimes our one shoulder just can't support the weight of a purse any longer. But it's a cute backpack... vegan leather... and fringe. Need I say more. My hair these days... well... I just sort of curl it, and throw it in a bun over night, wake up, let it do it's thing, and usually end up throwing it in the 'ever so Scandinavian' half bun. The Pikku Myy as I like to call it (refer to Moomin).
