Not me... I'm German.
It's been one of those weeks (or few weeks but let's not get too focused on the details) where I felt like spoiling myself a little. I have been working incredibly hard the last few months- between work and school- that I have been forgetting to look after myself, and put myself first. I know this sounds selfish, but I mean in the sense where you need to take a mental break from school or whatever is a stressor in your life, and force yourself to take a break.

Conveniently, Nordstrom is new to Vancouver. It was a very opportune break to take. "Market Research" as those of us in fashion like to call it.
(it's actually just a fancy way to say "shopping" without making yourself feel guilty for not doing legitimate homework...fun fact of the day)

Oh Nordstrom. Yet another overwhelming Department Store to visit. Oddly, I love department stores and hate them at the same time. First off, they are too much. Too many people, too many things, too many fake smiles worn my employees who simply don't want to deal with your shit and check to see if your shoes "must be free" because there is no price tag displayed but they do it anyways... It's just too over the top. But at the same time, if you have the time and patience, you can find some gems. Not saying I found any gems in particular when I ventured into this Seattle based beaut, but I definitely did not come out empty handed... but then again... when do I ever.
After wandering past the Luboutin bar and Gucci section and thinking I was going to be in and out of this store within the next 5 seconds, I found my way to the "more student friendly" section...aka... still pricey but not as pricey as Louis Vuitton.
It was also time to treat myself, so I took my sweet time browsing and trying items on. The soft caress of Italian Made cotton against my tan faded skin was love at first touch. Soft clothing, neutrals, and an indecisive Kate makes for a bad combination. So I bought them both.

[Simple Details & Interesting Layers]
I wanted to get one last kick out of a somewhat "summer" outfit, which is surprising considering I had previously been wearing chunky sweaters through the months of June-well... now.
I paired a knit, heather charcoal grey drawstring skirt with a lighter grey, long sleeve turtle neck (shocker). For a loose and effortless look, with a bit of extra visual appeal, I layered my incredibly soft Nordstrom purchase over top of the whole look.
The skirt just barely peaks out from under the shirt/dress, which gives it some extra length, and some extra contrast, making it interesting. By pairing the long sleeve underneath, that creates additional colour and texture contrast, while still keeping me slightly warm (I tend to get really cold really fast). Overall, this look is very simple, and effortless, and EXTREMELY COMFY (it is all knits, after all!)
Although wearing 3 completely different garments, the general colour scheme and simplicity of each garment ties everything together making it work. And of course, I don't go anywhere without my chelsea booties and leather watch...
